China's Alumina Production in April 2025
According to Baichuan Yingfu, China's alumina production in April 2025 reached 7.199 million tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 5.46%. The average daily output was 240,000 tons, down 3,800 tons compared to March 2025’s daily average of 243,800 tons.
In April, maintenance activities at multiple alumina production facilities, combined with production cuts due to cost inversion pressures, led to restricted supply and a slight decline in actual output. This was reflected in the decrease in daily average production.
The cost inversion resulting from falling prices continues to dampen producers' willingness to operate at full capacity. While some operating facilities are still undergoing maintenance, new production capacity in northern China is expected to come online in May. Therefore, the supply side is projected to experience fluctuations—initially declining and then rebounding. On a monthly basis, overall supply in May is expected to increase compared to April. It is estimated that the daily average output of China's alumina industry in May 2025 will slightly exceed April's level, with a total monthly production of approximately 7.4 million tons.
